2016 Nordic Spirit Recap

We are proud to report that the 2016 Lake Superior College Nordic Spirit Ski Race and Tour was a smash hit this year with course conditions, racer turnout and the weather all being favorable if not spectacular! We had 102 participants in this year’s race spread out between the three options of 26 km skate, 14 km skate, and 14 km classic. These options seem to be a winning combination for our participants and the trail system and we plan to continue them in 2017. Thank you to all the cheerful volunteers, generous sponsors, and amazing participants who made this year’s race so successful. We hope that you all consider returning for the Lake Superior College Nordic Spirit Ski Race and Tour next year on January 29, 2017....

Trail conditions – Excellent

Still on the fence about the race this weekend? Be assured that the trail has excellent snow coverage. The skate deck is flat and wide, firm, but not icy, and was freshly groomed. It will be groomed again the night before the race.  The classic tracks are plenty deep and smooth as well. There are some isolated patches of debris here and there, but they are easily avoidable. The Spirit side of the connector is getting better with each bit of snow we get, but there are still a couple of bumps and dips – overall it is very skiable. The photos are conditions as of today. This is what 95% or more of the trail looks like. .                                      ...
